Best gay hotel in Blackpool - Pride Lodge

John Dow wrote a review Jul It is what it is Look, this place is excellent for what it is, but not that great if you expect it to be something else. So lets be realistic, this is a bar, and a very good bar at that, with rooms above it. People who stay in this hotel overnight are not there because they want to see the sights of Blackpool and get a good nights rest inbetween.
If thats what you want, then go elsewhere. The bar is a typical gar bar, good decor, big enough and a dark room area that owing to covid wasnt open for obvious reasons. The rest of the hotel is showing its age and in need of some renovation work nothing really major just a refresh. The walls were magnolia but could do with a lick of paint and the carpets were worn but not shabby. Some areas needed a bit more work, like one wall seemed to have a space about 2mx3m hacked out of it, maybe they had to get to the pipes or wiring behind it, but then instead of refilling the hole and skimming, nail gunned what looked like a internal door over most of the hole to cover it, with gaps at various places as the hole wasnt a rectangle.
And it was a different colour. The rooms are pleasant enough, and just above the line when it comes to cleanliness.

It could be better, and some attention to detail is needed. For example broken toilet seats, taps that dont work, and dodgy shower but with some fiddling about things started to work-ish. Some design thought has gone into the rooms, plump pillows, soft furnishings and some decor. Plain pleasant enough and fit for purpose cupboards and drawers.
Big TV it was huge with freeview, and tea and coffee making facilities. None of this would be a problem but when you pay 40 per night you do expect a hotel room to be a decent hotel room, especially when you could get better rooms at other hotels for around half this. But the room and hotel isnt what people come here for, so it shouldnt be a problem. As I said, if you want a quiet nights sleep with no shouting or hubub from the bar below you until the very early hours, then dont go here. If you want to be able to drift off in a comfortable bed, you'll get the bed for sure, but there will be constant chattering from the corridors, fire exit doors in all directions banging closed all night, and constant footsteps outside your room and up and down the stairs, all night, and most of the morning.
If thats NOT what you want, then dont stay here. So, for what Trades is, its fantastic place and the staff do a great job. Lancashire, come on in -
Now having successfully run a gay pub of my own for a number of years I always like to see other venues in other city's. What is going on in Leeds with the gay venues? None of them with the exception of the popular bar the new penny serve regular lager! For us lager drinkers you won't find fosters, carling, carlsberg.
Only expensive stronger lager like millers etc is served and very expensive at that! In the viaduct we had to settle for two pints of millers however it wasn't very busy at the bar the topless lad along with someone I presumed to be in charge totally ignored us, a very polite young girl served us - great so I thought had a few sips only then to have our glasses taken off us as she apparently made a mistake and said we would have to have them in plastic glasses!!! I asked to see the manager or refund my money she came back gave us back our drinks and said it's ok 'he said we can keep it in the glass' Right I totally understand if a venue which has to due to local Licencing requirements have to sell drinks in plastic glasses but this should apply to EVERYONE.
Half the people had glass others plastic what is going on here? Cabaret was good and seemed a nice friendly crowed but wouldn't return we stayed away on our second night. This was my second time at Viaduct and what I like most about this place is the queer dragshows. Unlike other similar shows, this one is amusing, varied, and is not limited to sex themed only shows. Music was good, the only thing to bear in mind is that the place is very crowded on Saturdaya.
As a lesbian, out with a bunch of straight girls, on our first ever night out in Leeds, I managed to coax my friends into the Viaduct and Lord I'm glad I did, what a marvellous little place. Very friendly staff to serve quirky and reasonably priced drinks at record speed was a highlight. As was the excellent stereotypically gay music which got us all on our feet having an epic time. The only downside for me was the toilets which were absolutely disgustingly vile. I would definitely come back again when in Leeds- thank you for a fab time! Visited Sunday night to watch the guest Drag Queen, there's great level access straight off the street into the bar, I ordered a drink and was served quickly and was impressed when the bar man told me if I needed the Disabled Loo to just let them know and they would get me access to it.

The show was starting and the venue was really busy and I realised I wasn't going to be able to see the act on stage, I spoke to a Manager who said he would get me to a point at the front where I could see and he did this very happily and quickly. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit but was really impressed with the helpfulness of the staff most of all.
